Wolfhound Software recently had the privelege of working with Metec Consulting Engineers.

The idea was to provide a better email solution than their previous setup, to give greater accessibility and collaboration via mobile access and calendars. Update and provide greater security for their file servers, and establish an offsite backup solution. Provide offsite access to information for employees.

Metec's email setup was a suitable setup for startup business. E-mail addresses were setup on their web hosting address and each individual computer was setup with Outlook to pickup emails for each individual address. For example, mailboxes for bob@metec.ie and joe@metec.ie were created on the hosting setup and Bob's and Joe's computers were setup so that Outlook would retrieve mail sent to their relevant addresses.

The downside to this setup is the lack of collaboration and sharing of calendar information and contacts. Emails could also only be accessed on the computer with which the email was setup to be retrieved on.

After consultation with Metec Consulting Engineers, we agreed that the best decision was to move the current email setup to a newer cloud solution.

With Wolfhound Software's experience in Microsoft's BPOS suite, we were able to configure the existing mail addresses to the cloud.

Moving the email hosting to the cloud means employees calendar information can be shared out to all other company employees, allowing for greater scheduling. Contacts can be shared with greater ease, and a "Company Contacts" folder is automatically created, allowing users to send inter-company emails quicker, without having to search for addresses, and add new employees to their own personal contacts.

Moving Metec's email hosting to Microsoft BPOS suite also gives greater accessibility to emails. We were able to configure emails to mobiles with greater ease, and employees can now view their emails online using Outlook Web Access - a browser based experience that matches the look and feels of the full Outlook client.

As well as moving email to a cloud solution, we provided some necessary updates to the company's inhouse file server, and installed BitDefender anti-virus solution.

As an offsite backup solution we configured the file server with IDrive which backs up all important information on the server and uploads the backups to a secure online storage space. Again, this information if needed can be accessed with ease and via mobiles if necessary.

For access to information for those offsite, we are also setting up VPN access to the company's network for those who need access to information whilst outside the company's network.
